What our donors say

I always knew that I wanted to become a dad someday. Suddenly, I started to wonder “what if I can’t make a baby?” I did a lot of thinking about what I would do if my sperm count were too low. Would I consider adopting? Absolutely. I’d have no problem with my child not having my genes, but if I had the option, I would prefer my child to look a bit like me.

I am convinced that it is your environment and upbringing that defines who a child becomes. Therefore, it is important to me that parents, who want a baby out of love, also have that opportunity. As a sperm donor, I am able to fulfil these peoples greatest wish. For me, what is most important in raising a child is love!

// Martin

After talking with a friend, who is a sperm donor, I decided to apply. I liked the thought of helping others. I did the initial tests and was accepted as a donor.

It is a privilege for me to be able to create life and make others happy.

I have been a sperm donor now for almost three years, and the thought of helping others is actually why I keep doing it. I am aware that someday, a donor child may contact me, and I look forward to talking to them and to giving them the answers, they are looking for.

// Nicolai

When I was accepted into the sperm donor programme, there were a lot of things to consider. I had the opportunity to help others, to make my mark on society and get a fair compensation at the same time. Another important aspect for me was the support of my family. I wanted them to know that I am a donor, and they are fine with it.

I have experienced first hand what it does to a person to not be able to have the children, one wants. If I could assist in such a difficult situation, I would be happy to. Personally, I like the thought of passing on my genes and knowing that even if I never have children of my own, a part of me lives on. The money is a very nice bonus. I don’t consider it payment; it’s merely compensation.

My wife and I had many difficulties having children. My wife had a fertility check and I had a sperm count analysis, and we had a talk about what options we had within the area of fertility treatment. If my sperm count were low, we would very possibly use a sperm donor.

It turned out that I didn’t have low sperm count, and because of our talk I decided that I wanted to do my part to help others in that situation. It was not a hard decision to make, and I applied right away.
To me, if you want help, you must also help others. I am very happy and proud to be able to help people fulfil their dream.

Compensation

You are compensated for your time

After you complete the application process, you can begin to donate. At European Sperm Bank, you are compensated up to 500 DKK for every approved donation (including a PureGym membership, compensation for blood samples, health check, and bonus), to cover any out-of-pocket expenses.

You can get compensated up to 6,000 DKK every month (inclusive bonus, blood samples, etc).

There must be 48 hours between ejaculations, which means you may donate up to 3 times a week.

We expect you to donate at least once a week. When you donate sperm regularly, with several donations a week, you also have the opportunity to receive extra compensation every third month.

The payment you receive for each donation cannot be considered a salary, as it is not allowed for sperm donors to earn money from their donations. It is therefore only a compensation for your inconvenience and potential transport.

Sperm deposit

Free sperm deposit - Think about your future

When you stop as an active donor and have donated regularly, cf. the contract for min. of 1 year, we offer you a free 5-year sperm deposit (list price DKK 10,100). A sample of your semen is frozen and stored for your own convenience. In this way you secure yourself against e.g. decreased sperm quality or later loss of fertility.

At European Sperm Bank, you can only become an ID release donor (previously known as an ‘open donor’). As an ID release donor, we may share personally identifiable information about you with individuals conceived with your sperm if they request it. The specific age at which this can happen depends on the country’s legislation, but it typically occurs when the person turns 16 or 18.

Of all sperm banks, we have the most donor locations in Copenhagen. You can donate in one of our Copenhagen departments (København N, København K, Islands Brygge), in Lyngby, Aarhus and Aalborg.

We ask you to donate at least four times per month.

Once you have been accepted as a donor, you’ll get DKK 300 per approved donation. For each approved donation, 200 DKK will be transferred to your bank account once a week and the remaining 100 DKK is paid out roughly once every three months; this is dependent on your routine blood and urine tests showing that you have no sexually transmitted diseases.

On top of these amounts, you also get financial compensation for all your blood tests. The compensation is regulated by law.

If you’ve not had any sexually transmitted diseases for a whole year and have donated frequently, you’ll be eligible to receive an average of 6,000 DKK per month in compensation. This includes a free Fitness World membership (worth 300 DKK per month), which is activated as soon as you qualify.
