GeneXmatch is an offer for those who wish to minimise the risk of disease-causing combinations in the genes from you and your donor.
What is GeneXmatch?
GeneXmatch is a service offered by European Sperm Bank to support your fertility treatment. Our sperm donors are selected based on extensive genetic tests in order to increase the probability of conceiving a healthy child, but as the mother-to-be, you contribute your own genes on top of those of the donor.
There are thousands of diseases that can be transferred to the child through the male and female genes. All individuals are healthy carriers of at least one serious hereditary disease. GeneXmatch is an offer for those who wish to minimise the risk of disease-causing combinations in the genes from you and your donor.
A Genetic Match
What do we do?
GeneXmatch evaluates your genes and matches them to the genes of your selected donor. The test examines more than 390 recessive genes, allowing us to search for 12 gender-specific diseases, including Fragile X syndrome. We offer genetic consultation if required. GeneXmatch is offered for all donors with available straws except American donors.
Advantages of GeneXmatch
Minimises the risk of your child contracting serious diseases through recessive genes
Determines whether you are a carrier of any serious gender-specific diseases
Limitations of GeneXmatch
Does not cover all hereditary diseases
Does not cover spontaneous genetic mutations in eggs, sperm cells, or the foetus
All we need is a saliva sample. We'll send you the equipment, you'll send back a saliva sample, and we'll forward this to the lab. You'll hear back four weeks after the lab has received your sample.
You'll receive the results of GeneXmatch by email.
There are three possible results.
You are not a carrier of the gender-specific illnesses for which you have been tested + your selected donor is a match.
You are not a carrier of the gender-specific illnesses for which you have been tested + your selected donor is not a match. Choose a new sperm donor free of charge.
You are a carrier of the gender-specific illnesses for which you have been tested. We ask that you contact us for genetic consultation.
*The GeneXmatch product does not include a full report of all the genes examined.
Match for women who have undergone genetic testing
We also offer matching for mothers-to-be who have already been tested for recessive diseases and been identified as carriers of one or more diseases. We'll need a copy of your genetic report and in order to increase the probability of a match, we ask that you select two donors. As a general rule of thumb, the price is the same as that charged for GeneXmatch, but in certain cases, an additional fee will be charged.
If you have been identified as a carrier of one of the diseases included in the GeneXmatch screening, we recommend GeneXmatch, as your match will include a wide range of recessive genes aside from those that cause the pre-identified disease.
